Well before you could purchase packaged yeast in the grocery store, bread was made using the natural properties in flour, water and the air around us, making sourdough baking the oldest method of making bread. Sourdough is the leavening agent that was and is used to make bread rise naturally. It is all natural with no added bakers’ yeast, made through the fermentation of the natural bacteria found in flour and water.
The sourdough leaven is also what gives sourdough bread, and Melissa’s Sourdough Crisps, the delicious sour almost cheesy flavor!
